What is Marketing?

Marketing is the process of understanding the customers, and building and maintaining relationships with them.

It’s the key to an organization’s success, regardless of its size.

Marketing has been done for generations and will continue for more than 1000 years.

It is based on science, not on creativity. It starts way before creating the product. One has to understand consumers’ needs first and then create a product.

The best way to do marketing is by speaking about the product.

Explaining the consumer importance of the product is a key feature of marketing.

For eg. If one has just started a startup regarding electronics. Here, considering the product to be a smart lock that gives an instant message when someone knocks or rings the bell. One has to market it in such a way that it explains why the product is important i.e to reduce thefts and what advantages it has over other basic door locks. Then it’s more likely to get sold more. These are some basic pointers of marketing.

Now, let us dive deeper into marketing and understand it’s components.

Advertising, copywriting and sales are the components of marketing and are used to generate leads.

Advertising is a marketing tactic that involves paying for a space to promote a product. Advertising can be done offline or online. One can just speak a few lines about their product and share the video as an ad on social media and generate leads.

Copywriting is the act of writing the copy that sells your product and convinces prospective customers to take action. Copy builds the foundation for your content marketing.

Good marketing is all about good communication skills and it doesn’t mean speaking sophisticated English. One has to write as they talk i.e in very simple terms so that they can connect easily with people.

When it comes to building a brand, one need not be no 1 but has to be the only one in that sector.

Choosing a category and becoming a leader in that is of uttermost importance.

If one cannot become a leader in a category then they have to be the leader in the subcategory.

Digital marketing is also called data-driven marketing where we use different techniques to market our product on the internet. It includes techniques like SEO, SEM, Keywords, Ads, display marketing, blogging, etc. One uses these techniques for faster selling of their products and to reach out to a large consumer audience.

Whereas, traditional marketing is any type of advertisement used by a company for years. It can be TV ads, radio ads, newspaper ads, flyers, etc. TV ads reach millions at a cost(ranges from1 Lakh to 10 Lakh ) for 30 seconds commercial.

Digital marketing is the best way to reach out to the English speaking population with spending power in India. It allows the marketing campaign to be targetted on gender, location, and even on past purchase history. Therefore, it reaches the right people. Whereas traditional marketing is limited to age, interests, location.
